Swashbucklers Honor Ethel Precht
(Lake Charles, La.) The Louisiana Swashbucklers and several of their corporate partners including US Agencies Insurance and Domino’s Pizza honored Ms. Ethel Precht in their annual Pink Game held March 24th for her work in the fight against Breast Cancer.
“The Ethel Precht Hope Breast Cancer Foundation does great work in the local community and we wanted to show our support for the work they do,” said Chris Meaux President and General Manager of the Louisiana Swashbucklers. “The families they help are right here in our community, we see and know the families that receive this help and that is important.”
In addition to honoring her organization the Swashbucklers, US agencies, and Domino’s Pizza raised money to benefit the organization to help in their fight against Cancer. Corporate Partner US Agencies donated $1 for every policy written in February. “US Agencies believes that the parishes of Cameron and Calcasieu have provided so much to our organization in the past that it was time for us to help and give back,” commented Danielle Simon District Manager for US Agencies. “Through the My Community Program at US Agencies we are given the chance to participate in these local events and are excited to invest back into the community.” Domino’s Pizza had a fundraiser on March 20th and donated a portion of pizza sales that day to the Ethel Precht Hope Breast Cancer Foundation. The Swashbucklers raised money through the sale of their annual FirstMate calendar and the sale of Pink footballs. In all, these three partners presented Ms. Ethel with checks in excess of $7,000 to benefit her organizations cause.
This year’s fundraising drive culminated at the game on March 24th, which was deemed “The Ethel Precht Pink Game.” Specially made pink footballs were exclusively used for the entire game and an Ethel Precht section was designated in the arena, in which proceeds from the sale of seats in that section were donated to the foundation.
The Ethel Precht Foundation is well known in the area, and her annual 3K walk drew over 2500 participants last October. It started in 2004 with only a few hundred, but has grown each and every year since.
TOGETHER WE WILL WIN!
Mrs. Ethel Precht is a leader and an inspiration to us all. A breast cancer survivor for 25 years, Mrs. Ethel has devoted her life to helping others in their fight against breast cancer. After attending a breast cancer walk in 2004 Mrs. Ethel thought it would be great if she could host a local event to benefit area residents undergoing treatment for breast cancer. The Ethel Precht Breast Cancer 3k was born and she hasn’t looked back since.
The event started small and has grown to over 2500 attendees and continues to grow. The money raised stays in Calcasieu and Cameron parishes to help local residents offset the cost of undergoing treatment. The Ehtel Precht HOPE Breast Cancer Foundation has helped over 300 local families and has given scholarships to survivors and immediate family members to attend McNeese State University. In addition the foundation started a support group for cancer survivors that meets monthly and provides affection and friendship to those who attend.
The 2012 event will be the fifth year that the Louisiana Swashbucklers have been involved with this great foundation. Over the past five years the team has raised money for the foundation through the sale of pink footballs that are used in the game dedicated to Mrs. Ethel and her cause. This season not only are we raising money from the sale of the pink footballs but we will also sale a block of tickets to our Breast Cancer game with the proceeds going to Mrs. Ethel’s foundation. Our Firstmate cheerleaders and other staff will be present on Saturday, October 15th to volunteer and participate in the 3K walk. We hope all Swashbuckler fans will help this great cause. DRUG FREE EASY AS CLAPPING YOUR HANDS
LAKE CHARLES LA. – The Louisiana Swashbucklers www.labucs.com recently spoke to kids at South Cameron schools during Drug Free Awareness week. Deputy David Hebert of the Cameron Parish Sheriffs Dept. invited representatives from the Swashbucklers to address students at a school assembly about the importance of staying drug free to achieve their dreams. Swashbuckler players are fantastic role models for all kids,” stated Chris Meaux President/GM. Swashbuckler players are desirous of working with the community to fight drug abuse with kids of all ages. Bucs place kicker Blake Bercegeay was among those who spoke, “I told the kids that saying no to drugs was as easy as clapping your hands. I knew I couldn’t achieve success on or off the field, if I gave in to those temptations. I asked them not to give in to the pressures from friends and to make their own decisions. I felt they were in tune with what I was telling them.” Commented Bercegeay.
The Swashbucklers plan to continue work in the lake area to ensure a drug free environment for SW Louisiana kids. “We want all kids to know, drugs can destroy your life. Drugs are responsible for so many bad decisions in life. There is an incredible amount of opportunity to succeed in this world. We want every student to have a clear head and make great decisions to succeed in life,” stated Swashbuckler Owner/CEO Kyle Thorne.
